UPDATE 11:30am

LHR remains closed with all teams and services working hard to get airport back open.

Of the 1,300 planned flights at LHR today, 846 flights cancelled so far.

Heathrow Airport Limited [HAL] advise their main focus points are in following order;

  1. Safety and Security of Airport
  2. Restore systems and technologies including manual check of systems.
  3. Restore flight operations once safe to do so.
  4. Full recovery stage.

Terminal 2 & 4 remains out of service and expected not available for rest of today.

Terminals 3 & 5 also remain out of service however hoping to have some kind of skeleton operation from this afternoon but too early to confirm yet.

Subject to the airport opening up this afternoon at T3 & T5, plan is to prioritise repatriation of Passengers, Aircraft and Crew from diverted flights this morning that are spread across Europe.

Based on T2 not opening today (21st) all remaining Aer Lingus flights to & from LHR will be cancelled.

This will total 38 flights over the day and impacting 5,600 passengers.

There will be limited capacity for reaccommodating Passengers on flights to and from London this weekend.

Aer Lingus Customer Contact Centre is managing well & fully staffed with que times no longer than 50mins.

Heathrow are cautiously planning full ops tomorrow (22nd) however there is still some uncertainty as

to the actual capability on this with further Information later this afternoon.

Aer Lingus is planning full schedule to & from LHR tomorrow but remains under review.

UPDATE 9:00am

T2 & T4 continue to be most impacted with only very essential staff permitted into these buildings. Heathrow are working to reconfigure electrical supplies to try and get power back to these terminals. Once and when power is restored, extensive checks need to be carried out on all systems such as baggage belts to computers and other critical electrical systems across each Terminal.

Heathrow has 1,300 flights planned today with 675 flights cancelled so far with many more expected to be cancelled. Of the 38 Aer Lingus flights planned to/from LHR today, 23 flights up to 1500z are cancelled so far impacting 3,700 Passengers with additional cancellations planned up to 1700z.

Heathrow are hosting an operational call at 10:00z which will hopefully give more clarity for evening operation if permitted or not. This will influence decision to operate or not, remaining flights to/from LHR after 1700z.

Passengers on cancelled flights are getting communications regarding their flights, however rebooking of some passengers especially with onwards and inbound connections will prove challenging.

Some carriers diverted to Ireland (SNN) and in UK (MAN & LGW) with vast majority diverting to European airports. This has not had any impact to flow rates or ATC regulations across Europe and no reports of any airport congestion.

Aer Lingus Short Haul (aside from LHR) and Long Haul schedule is operating per schedule and performing very well with OTP currently at 89% (within 15mins)
